  --- ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN ---


Malaysia will celebrate 50 years of independence in 2007. In celebrating this milestone, the government has planned a celebration with the theme “Celebrating 50 Years of Nationhood” in an effort to create patriotism and the nationalistic spirit amongst Malaysians.

Yayasan Harapan Kanak Kanak Malaysia (YHKM) with the collaboration of ten (10) other Non Governmental Organizations representing various children’s causes will also participate in celebrating Malaysia’s 50th Anniversary through a special, unique campaign called ‘Our Vision for the Nation’, the objective of this campaign is to ensure that the vision and hope of children will be heard by leaders of our country and shared amongst Malaysians.

These photographs will be made into a montage in the form of a Malaysian flag to be raised on 31st August 2007. The children's vision will be compiled and presented to the nation's leaders.
   
 
   
   
  --- MECHANICS ---


A. One million photographs of children throughout Malaysia will be collected throughout the campaign duration between May and December 2007. At the same time, the children will be asked to write what they thought they would like to see happen in the country – i.e., their vision for the nation. These photographs and vision statements will be collected through the following means:-

• at roadshows organized throughout the country where parents can either bring their children’s photographs or have them taken at the booth.
• through schools, kindergartens and special children’s centers throughout the country
• electronically through an official website. Photographs collected through the official website will be resized as “thumbnails” and will be formed into a Malaysian flag on the website. Visitors to the site will be able to get information on the children who have given their photographs.
• parents can also send the photographs and vision statements by post.

B. The one million children’s photographs collected will be put together to form a 40’X60’ Malaysian Flag which we propose to be unveil at Dataran Merdeka Kuala Lumpur on August 31st to commemorate the nation’s 50th Anniversary. A second flag will be on December 31st 2007 to herald in the new year and to symbolize the dawn of hope for the children whose visions have been expressed and presented to the government.

C. The best five (5) visions received from the campaign will entitle the children to win a trip to a summer camp program in Perth, Australia.

D. In order to raise funds for the participating charitable organizations, a minimum donation of RM3 will be collected for each photograph taken or received from the public.

E. We are also soliciting donations from corporations/publics to sponsor the under privilege at this campaign. All children should be given the chance to shout out their vision for the nation as we celebrate our nation’s 50th Independence Day. Currently donation can be made at selected Maybank outlet nationwide & in all DOME outlets.
   
   
  --- OBJECTIVES ---


The objectives of the campaign are:--
• To enable children to feel and appreciate the spirit of independence and in so doing to build patriotism in children.
• To enable children to be a part of the process of nation building.
• To create public awareness of the role and value of children in shaping the future of the country. In so doing, to provide our leaders and society with an understanding of the role of children in the planning and development of our country.
• To raise funds for the activities of 10 NGOs which support various children’s causes.
